THE FIRST TIME A TEACHER TELLS ME ONE OF MY STUDENTS

MADE HUGE IMPROVEMENTS ON HIS LAST PHONICS TEST

I was feeling bummed because one of my students transfered to another school but then I got a visit from a teacher to tell me that she had seen a lot of improvement in one of the boys I have been working with.  It’s small, but it made my day.  Thursdays are the best.

Post inspired by the delightfully sarcastic and hilarious http://howapcvputsitgently.tumblr.com/

Check, Check, Check (Part I)

After all of the initial craziness of my Invitation wore off, one of the first things that I did was to write down all the things I had either been wanting to do during my time in Seattle or things I loved and wanted to do again before I leave for Jamaica in March.  Several have the added benefit of getting to guilt my friends into doing all sorts of random stuff with me before I leave.  It has been said before that I occasionally use the Big Browns (eyes) to get my way and now is no exception.  I have the full list in the menu, but I thought that a couple of them deserved further explanation

1.)  Getting of the field at a Sounders game.

CHECK!  For those who are new friends or are unawares, I am a member of the Emerald City Supporters and eat/drink/sleep/drink Seattle Sounders for 8 months of the year, and let’s be honest the other 4 as well.  With the help of a friend of mine who works for the organization I was able to procure field tickets for before the game.  My absolutely wonderful friend Liz agreed to be my date and we had a great time enjoying the free refreshments and meandering the sideline.

2.)  Drink a beer at Oktoberfest in my drindl.

Check and check!  While I was studying abroad in Granada, our fall break perfectly coincided with the Oktoberfest celebrations in Munich.  Some would say that it was destiny and Melissa and I were in no mood to fight the fates.  We had such a great time, making loads of friends that we still keep in contact with.  After our first fun-filled day we decided that we needed to go full out and ended up making our largest purchases of the trip, authentic German drindl.

Here is Melissa and I with some of the young locals 😀

After I returned to Seattle, I vowed to make good on my investment and wear the drindl as often as I possibly could.  My past roommates can attest to my periodic drindl Tuesdays.  So two years ago when there was talk about heading up the the picaresque mountain town of Leavenworth for their Oktoberfest celebrations, I knew that it was drindl time (not to be confused with Hammer Time).  In what seems to have become an annual fall tradition, some friends and I made the drive up to Leavenworth after work on Friday and danced the night away.

Here I am with my good friends Lizzie, Katie, Rocio and the photographer, Chris.

So in closing, check out the list Seattle friends and help me finish crossing things off before March!
